MÁV Co. continues to develop its environmental protection system aligned to the EU norms and for the sake of the cause it has prepared environmental protection instructions concerning the whole territory of the railway company and all of its units, which specifies the environmental tasks regarding the individual environmental elements.

Emission of harmful gases at MÁV has remarkably decreased in the recent period due to the actions taken to prevent air pollution. The result is due to the reduction of transport performances and fuel consumption, investments within the scope of the heating modernization programme of the railway company and the positive effects of the modernization of the diesel vehicle park.

The railway company takes several actions and makes investments for environmental protection. Within the scope of the latter, the company has invested approximately HUF40 million recently in establishing recycle bins for hazardous waste at the sites and carried out the reconstruction of the railway diesel supply system too.

Within the scope of a further environmental protection investment of high value, MÁV Co. has created draining and filling ferroconcrete trays and oil traps. In the recent period, MÁV Co. could spend remarkable amounts using international aids on the execution of noise reduction projects.
